Friends of the Library Mission

The Friends of the Wynnewood Library is a 501c3 organization designed to help bolster library funding and services.

Who We Are

The Friends of the Wynnewood Library is a civic organization made of Garvin County residents, with the majority of those living and working in Wynnewood. We are a collection of library enthusiasts that strive to provide resources that expand and support current library services, programs, and environment.

What We Do

We are largely responsible for raising funds for special projects and general library needs.

Per the library's Collection Development and Management policy, which you can find here, we are the recipients of items that have been removed from the library's collection. We are then able to take these books and sell them in order to raise funds for our mission. We may also provide materials in less than ideal shape for use in crafting or other creative endeavors.

Outreach, marketing, and event hosting is also done on the behalf of the Friends of the Library ourselves. To keep our organization active and attract new members, recruitment is one of our vital goals.

We have been called upon to volunteer at library events both in and out of the physical library itself, and enjoy doing so. Volunteering is not a requirement for membership, but active participation is welcomed and encouraged.

How We Make It Happen

General fundraising for projects or needs is one of our top priorities as a civic organization. We are able to raise funds using a variety of methods.

When we are selling materials that have been removed from the library collection, we approach it in two ways. First, we have an ongoing book sale during library operating hours. Patrons and guests may purchase a bag from library staff for $5. The bag may be filled with as many books that will fit. Secondly, we may hold book sale events where set up a temporary book market outside of library hours or during special community events. This type of book sale may be at the library address or at an off site location. Books at these events may be sold at individual prices or using the buy-a-bag method.

Outreach, recruitment, and marketing materials are procured in order to bolster another revenue stream: annual library dues. These dues guarantee that we will always have some income to help keep the organization working.

We work with businesses and other organizations in order to support certain library functions or community educational interests. These partnerships are not always financial in nature.

Lastly, we are able to take monetary donations intended for memorial purposes. These donations may be designated for general use, or they may be put towards the purchase of specific book titles. These memorial donations are always used in accordance with the donor's wishes.
